TL;DR: Squarespace’s AI website builder (Blueprint AI) turns a short description of your business into a multi-page starter site, and then you finish it yourself in Squarespace’s drag-and-drop editor. It’s free to try during a 14-day trial, and you need a paid plan to publish: $19/mo billed yearly or $25/mo month to month for Basic. If you’d rather have the whole site built and ready for Google and AI answers out of the box, WebZum asks a few questions and builds a finished multi-page site in about five minutes, with copy, photos, a visitor chatbot, FAQ markup and an llms.txt file already on it. You can see yours free before you pay, then it’s $19/mo or $34/mo, month to month.

What is the Squarespace AI website builder?
It’s a prompt-first way to start a Squarespace site. You describe your business in your own words, and Squarespace generates “a personalized, multi-page website starting point with relevant pages, copy, imagery, colors, and fonts” that you then edit in the normal Squarespace editor (Squarespace AI website builder).
Squarespace calls the tool Blueprint AI and says it was named one of TIME’s Best Inventions of 2025 (that’s Squarespace’s own claim, on the same page). Its four steps are:
- Describe what you’re building. Squarespace asks you to “share what the website is for, who it serves, what visitors should be able to do, and how you want it to feel.”
- Preview a personalized website with content, images and styling in place.
- Make it yours in the drag-and-drop editor, or ask the built-in AI assistant for changes.
- Publish, connect a domain and add tools like scheduling or selling.
After the first draft you’re in a full editor. Squarespace says you can “drag, drop, resize, and rearrange content across desktop and mobile without code,” generate images, and describe a custom section (a service comparison, a pricing display) for the AI to build (same page).
Is the Squarespace AI website builder free?
Free to try, not free to publish. Squarespace’s own FAQ says you can use the AI builder during a free trial, but “you need a paid Squarespace website plan to publish the site” (Squarespace). The trial runs 14 days with no credit card, and Squarespace “doesn’t offer a free plan” (Squarespace pricing).
How much does the Squarespace AI website builder cost?
The AI builder comes with every website plan. What you pay is the plan (Squarespace pricing, checked October 30, 2026):
| Plan | Billed yearly | Month to month | AI credits included |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $19/mo | $25/mo | 10, one time |
| Core | $29/mo | $39/mo | 20 a month |
| Plus | $49/mo | $65/mo | 40 a month |
| Advanced | $99/mo | $139/mo | 120 a month |
Two details matter for a small service business. Paying yearly gets you a free domain for the first year, after which it renews at the standard rate (same page). And Squarespace’s refund window is short: annual plans get a full refund only within 14 days, and month-to-month plans don’t get one (Squarespace website refund policy).
For a deeper look at every Squarespace fee, see our Squarespace pricing breakdown.
Does Squarespace AI cost extra? (AI credits explained)
Some of it does. Squarespace says “credits represents total capacity for all AI features,” and its help page says you spend credits to run prompts on large language models “like ChatGPT and Gemini” (Squarespace pricing; Squarespace Help: Use AI credits).
What’s easy to miss:
- Basic gets 10 credits, once. “The Basic plan only includes the 10 starter AI credits.” They “don’t roll over, and don’t renew monthly” (Squarespace Help, same article).
- Trial credits disappear when you pay. Trial sites get 10 trial credits, which expire when you upgrade (same article).
- Extra packs aren’t refundable once you touch them. You can buy up to 400 credits at a time; packs expire after a year, and “if you’ve used any credits from a pack, you can’t cancel or get a refund for any portion” (same article).
What is Squarespace AI Visibility, and does it help you get found?
It’s a tracker, not a booster. Squarespace’s AI Visibility tool “shows how often your site appears in ChatGPT’s and Gemini’s answers using a set of realistic, audience-focused prompts,” and Squarespace says plainly that it “doesn’t directly influence how ChatGPT ranks or recommends brands and websites” (Squarespace AI Visibility).
Each check costs credits. “One run scans a single query on one AI model,” and plans allow up to 20, 40 or 120 runs a month on Core, Plus and Advanced, English-language accounts only (Squarespace pricing). Measuring is useful. But for most owners the bigger question is whether the site itself is easy for Google and AI assistants to read, which brings us to the test.
We checked 12 real Squarespace business sites for AI readiness
To see what Squarespace sites actually ship, we picked 12 live local service business sites that public agency portfolios and example roundups list as Squarespace builds (plumbers, cleaners, a landscaper, a pressure washer). We confirmed each one runs on Squarespace from its response headers, then fetched its homepage, robots.txt and /llms.txt on October 30, 2026. For comparison, we ran the same check on four WebZum demo sites we built ourselves.
Most of the Squarespace sites were made by professional designers, so if anything they should be better than a typical DIY site.
| What we checked | Squarespace sites (12) | WebZum demo sites (4) |
|---|---|---|
| AI crawlers like GPTBot and ClaudeBot allowed in robots.txt | 12 of 12 | 4 of 4 |
| Business markup (LocalBusiness or a trade type) on the homepage | 11 of 12 | 4 of 4 |
| Phone number inside that markup | 7 of 12 | 4 of 4 |
| FAQ markup (FAQPage) on the homepage | 1 of 12 | 4 of 4 |
| An llms.txt file at /llms.txt | 1 of 12 | 4 of 4 |
What this shows, fairly:
- Squarespace’s defaults are good on crawling. Every site let AI crawlers in. That’s by design: Squarespace leaves its “Block known artificial intelligence crawlers” box unchecked by default because it doesn’t want to cut sites out of “chat answers and sources” (Squarespace Help). Squarespace also says site content is “marked up by default” for search engines (Squarespace AI Visibility), and our check agrees: 11 of 12 homepages carried business markup.
- The extras are on you. Only one site had FAQ markup and only one had an llms.txt file. Squarespace’s llms.txt setting exists on version 7.1 sites, but “the llms.txt file is disabled by default,” you write the text yourself, and Squarespace says it “can’t offer specific advice on creating text for your llms.txt file” (Squarespace Help: Create an llms.txt file, updated July 22, 2026). On the one site that had it, the owner or their designer wrote it.
- The honest caveat. Squarespace itself calls llms.txt “a proposed standard that’s still actively in development” (same page). Nobody can promise an llms.txt file or FAQ markup will get you into ChatGPT’s answers. They make your business easier to read. They don’t guarantee anything.
On WebZum, every site gets these without a settings page: business markup with your trade type and phone number, FAQ markup, an llms.txt file, and a robots.txt that names and allows GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and Google-Extended. For more on what that file does, see what llms.txt is and how to get recommended by ChatGPT.
Is the Squarespace AI website builder any good?
For design, yes. Squarespace’s templates are known for looking polished, and the AI gives you a fast starting point inside an editor with real depth. If you like arranging things yourself, it’s a strong pick.
The catch is that the AI only starts the job. After the draft, you’re writing and checking the copy, picking photos, filling in business details, deciding whether to set up llms.txt, and choosing a plan. Squarespace’s prompt guidance even asks for “the tone or visual feeling you want,” which is a design brief by another name. That’s fine for someone who enjoys it, and a lot of evenings for a plumber who doesn’t.
When should you pick Squarespace instead?
Choose Squarespace if:
- You want hands-on, drag-and-drop control of every section and layout.
- You plan to sell products online and want Squarespace’s commerce tools.
- You’re happy paying for a year up front to get the lower $19/mo rate and the first-year domain.
Choose WebZum if you’d rather describe your business once and get a finished site back, with the copy written, photos in place, a visitor chatbot that answers questions with your hours and phone number, and the Google and AI-answer setup already done.
How is WebZum different after the prompt?
WebZum builds the finished site instead of a starting point. You type a sentence about your business (or paste your Google listing), answer a few quick questions, and in about five minutes you get a multi-page site with written copy, photos, a services and prices page, an FAQ and a contact page, on a free preview address.
Changes happen by chat. Ask for a new page, a different color or an updated price, and WebZum shows you what it plans to change before anything happens. You can undo by asking. AI edits never use credits.
Pricing is simple and month to month: Basic is $19/mo on a WebZum address, and Professional is $34/mo with your own domain. Every plan has a 30-day money-back guarantee, and there’s no year-long commitment to get the low price. FAQ
What is the Squarespace AI website builder?
It’s Squarespace’s prompt-first site starter, also called Blueprint AI. You describe your business, and it generates a multi-page starter site with pages, copy, images, colors and fonts that you then edit in the Squarespace editor.
Is the Squarespace AI website builder free?
You can try it free during Squarespace’s 14-day trial with no credit card. To publish, you need a paid plan, starting at $19/mo billed yearly or $25/mo month to month.
Does Squarespace AI use credits?
Yes. AI features draw from AI credits. Basic includes 10 one-time credits, and Core, Plus and Advanced add 20, 40 or 120 a month. AI Visibility checks also use credits.
Do Squarespace sites have an llms.txt file?

Will Squarespace AI Visibility get me into ChatGPT?
No. Squarespace says the tool doesn’t directly influence how ChatGPT ranks or recommends sites. It measures how often your site shows up in ChatGPT and Gemini answers.
What’s the easiest alternative if I don’t want to build it myself?
A done-for-you builder like WebZum. It builds a finished site from a few questions in about five minutes, and you can see yours free before paying $19/mo or $34/mo, month to month.
See your site before you decide
Squarespace gives you a beautiful head start and a lot of decisions. If you’d rather skip to a finished site that’s already set up for Google and AI answers, build your free WebZum preview. It takes about five minutes, and you only pay if you like it.
