Cheap Website Hosting 2026: What You Really Pay at Checkout

WebZum Team•October 28, 2026•12 min read
Two storefronts side by side on a small-town main street in golden evening light: on the left an empty bare rental unit with a lone folding chair, a cardboard box, a coiled extension cord and toolboxes on the sidewalk; on the right a finished green-painted hardware and repair shop with warm lights, stocked shelves and a potted plant by the door

TL;DR: The cheapest website hosting in 2026 is advertised at $1 to $4 a month, but that price only holds if you commit for 12 to 48 months, and it renews at about $8 to $14 a month after that. When we went to checkout at Hostinger, Bluehost, DreamHost and IONOS on October 28, 2026, the amount due today ran from $1 to $143.64 before tax, two carts already had paid extras added as “free trials,” and over 36 months the plans came to roughly $120 to $575 for hosting alone (Hostinger, Bluehost, DreamHost, IONOS). None of them builds your website. WebZum does: it builds your whole business site in about five minutes, hosts it, and lets you see it free first. Then it’s $19/mo (Basic) or $34/mo (Professional, with your own domain), month to month, with a 30-day money-back guarantee on every plan.

Disclosure: WebZum publishes this blog and makes a website builder that includes hosting. Host prices below are what each host’s own US pages and checkout showed us, linked inline.

Verified October 28, 2026. US prices before sales tax. Hosting sales change often, so check the checkout page before you buy.

What is the cheapest website hosting right now?

On paper, it’s IONOS’s Web Hosting Plus at “$1 /month with a 1-year term,” followed by Hostinger Premium at $2.49, DreamHost’s Web Hosting Launch at $2.89 and Bluehost Starter at $3.99 (IONOS, Hostinger, DreamHost, Bluehost). In practice, “cheapest” depends on how long you commit, what renews after the first term, and what’s sitting in your cart when you pay.

Here’s what each host’s checkout showed us:

Plan Advertised What you commit to Due today (before tax) Then
⭐ WebZum Basic $19/mo Month to month $0 for the preview; $19 when you publish $19/mo, same price
⭐ WebZum Professional $34/mo Month to month $34 when you publish $34/mo, own domain included
IONOS Web Hosting Plus $1/mo 12 months $1 (billed monthly) $14/mo
Hostinger Premium $2.49/mo 48 months, paid up front $119.52 $10.99/mo
DreamHost Web Hosting Launch $2.89/mo 12 months, paid up front $34.68 $131.88/yr
Bluehost Starter $3.99/mo 36 months, paid up front $143.64 $359.64 per 36 months

What did we find at checkout?

We picked the cheapest advertised shared plan at four big hosts, clicked through to the cart from a US connection (Seattle) on the afternoon of October 28, 2026, and stopped before paying. No account, no card. We left GoDaddy out because its site showed us a non-US store from our test machine.

  1. The tiny monthly price is a big payment divided up. Hostinger says it plainly: “All plans are paid upfront. The monthly rate reflects the total plan price divided by the number of months in your plan.” Its $2.49 plan meant $119.52 due today for 48 months (Hostinger). Bluehost’s $3.99 Starter meant $143.64 today for 36 months, with the cart showing it “Renews at $359.64.” DreamHost puts it this way: “The full term plus taxes is charged at checkout” (DreamHost).
  2. Shorter terms cost a lot more per month. The same Hostinger Premium plan was $12.19 for one month, $47.88 for 12 months and $83.76 for 24 months. Bluehost Starter was $15.99 billed monthly, $50.90 for one year, $143.64 for three years and $191.52 for four.
  3. Two carts came with extras already in them. Bluehost’s cart included a “Professional Email Trial” (one month free, “Renews at $2.99”) and “Yoast SEO AI+” (one month free, “Renews at $3.99”), and the checkout notes that “All plans and products automatically renew unless you cancel.” DreamHost’s cart included Professional Email, free for the first three months, “then $19.99/1yr.” You can remove them. You just have to notice them. Hostinger offered email marketing at $1.99 a month but didn’t add it for us.
  4. The $1 plan isn’t the cheapest over three years. IONOS Plus is $1 a month for the first 12 months, then $14 a month on a 1-year term, or $12 a month if you pick 36 months. IONOS’s own Essential plan costs more up front ($4, or $3 on a 36-month term) but renews at $8, or $6 on 36 months (IONOS). Over 36 months, Essential comes to $180 and Plus to $300.
  5. Tax comes after the address. Hostinger and Bluehost showed $0 tax until a billing address is entered, DreamHost said taxes are “Calculated after billing address,” and IONOS notes “State and local sales taxes may apply.”
  6. The free domain has strings. Hostinger, DreamHost, IONOS and Bluehost all include a domain free for the first year on longer terms, not on monthly plans. Bluehost’s .com then renews at $23.99 a year (Bluehost), and if you cancel inside Bluehost’s 30-day money-back window, it “will deduct a non-refundable domain fee from your refund, at the regular cost of your domain” (Bluehost).

None of this is a scam. It’s how hosting has been sold for years. But it means the price on the banner tells you very little about what you’ll spend.

What does cheap hosting cost over 36 months?

Here’s the hosting bill for one small business site over 36 months at the prices we saw. Host rows are the plan only (plus Bluehost’s .com renewals, the one renewal price we could confirm). They don’t include building the site, email, or tax.

Option How you pay Our math Cost over 36 months Who builds the site
⭐ WebZum Basic Monthly $19 × 36 $684 WebZum builds it, you edit by chat
⭐ WebZum Professional Monthly, own domain $34 × 36 $1,224, domain registration covered up to $20/yr WebZum builds it, you edit by chat
Hostinger Premium 48 months up front $119.52 (covers 48 months) $119.52, plus domain renewals You
Hostinger Premium 12 months, then renewals $47.88 + $10.99 × 24 $311.64, plus domain renewals You
Bluehost Starter 36 months up front $143.64 + $23.99 × 2 (.com) $191.62 You
Bluehost Starter Monthly $15.99 × 36 $575.64, plus a domain You
DreamHost Launch Yearly $34.68 + $131.88 × 2 $298.44, plus domain renewals You
IONOS Essential 36-month term $3 × 12 + $6 × 24 $180, plus domain renewals You
IONOS Plus 36-month term $1 × 12 + $12 × 24 $300, plus domain renewals You

Two things jump out. The cheapest way to buy hosting is to pay for years you haven’t used yet. And paying month to month, the way most people pay for everything else, costs three times as much at Bluehost ($575.64 against $191.62 on the 36-month term), before you even buy a domain.

What should I check before I pay for cheap hosting?

Six questions catch almost every surprise:

  • What’s due today? Look at the cart total, not the per-month number.
  • What does it renew at, and for how long? Hostinger’s cart, for example, says “Renews after 48 months at $10.99/mo for 12 months.”
  • What’s already in the cart? Untick trials you didn’t ask for, like email or SEO add-ons.
  • Is the free domain really free? It’s usually one year, on longer terms only, and the refund may keep the domain fee.
  • Do you need a padlock upgrade? You shouldn’t. Let’s Encrypt gives “a trusted certificate at zero cost” to anyone with a domain (Let’s Encrypt), and all four hosts above list free SSL.
  • Who’s building the site? Hosting is the empty unit. The pages, words, photos and upkeep are on you.

If you want email at your own domain, budget for it separately no matter where your site lives. Google Workspace starts at “$7/ user per month” (Google Workspace).

Does cheap hosting include a website?

Not a finished one. All four hosts include website tools of some kind: Hostinger lists an “AI Builder” and “WordPress,” Bluehost lists “AI Site Creation Tools,” and DreamHost includes its “Liftoff AI Website Builder” (Hostinger, Bluehost, DreamHost). Those tools still put you in the driver’s seat. You pick the design, write the pages, find the photos and keep it all updated, often in WordPress with plugins that need updates too.

That’s where the real cost of a “cheap” website lives: your evenings, or a designer’s invoice. Our small business website cost breakdown covers that side.

What do you get from WebZum with nothing added?

WebZum isn’t the lowest sticker on this page, and we’re not going to pretend it is. It’s the all-in option. Here’s what the $19 Basic plan includes, with no add-ons in the cart, per our free website page:

  1. A finished multi-page site. Copy written for your business, “5–10 custom AI-generated images,” and your own logo, usually ready in about five minutes after a few questions.
  2. Hosting, CDN and SSL. Sites are pre-built pages served from a global network, with responses around 200 milliseconds. No server to manage, no plugins, no updates.
  3. A 24/7 AI chatbot for visitors. It answers questions with your hours and phone number and asks for a name and number so you can call back.
  4. Contact forms with no submission cap. Leads go to your email.
  5. Search and AI-ready files. Every site gets business schema markup, a sitemap, and llms.txt files that help AI assistants read it.
  6. Edits by chat. Type “add a page for drain cleaning” or “we’re closed Thanksgiving” and the editor makes the change after one click. Change your mind? Type “undo that.”
  7. No setup fees, no prepaying years, no renewal jump. Month to month, cancel anytime, and a 30-day money-back guarantee on every plan.

Professional ($34/mo) adds your own domain, with registration covered up to $20 a year, and removes WebZum branding. You’re paying more than a $3 hosting plan because you’re getting the finished shop, not the empty unit: top-quality AI copy and photos, fast pages, a team behind it, and no hidden fees.

When is cheap hosting the better pick?

Choose a cheap shared host if you (or someone you trust) will build and maintain the site yourself, you want WordPress and full control over plugins, you plan to run several sites on one account, or you’re happy prepaying a few years to get the lowest price.

Choose WebZum if you’d rather review a finished business site than build one, and you want one predictable monthly price for the site and the hosting.

How do I get a WebZum site with hosting included?

  1. Go to webzum.com/free-website and type what your business does, or paste your Google link.
  2. Answer a few quick questions. The build takes about five minutes.
  3. Your site goes live on a WebZum address for a free 30-day preview. Change anything by typing it into the chat box.
  4. Pick Basic ($19/mo) or Professional ($34/mo, your own domain) when you want to keep it. Hosting is included in both.

FAQ

What is the cheapest website hosting?

By advertised price, IONOS Web Hosting Plus at $1 a month for the first year, then Hostinger Premium ($2.49), DreamHost Web Hosting Launch ($2.89) and Bluehost Starter ($3.99), all on 12- to 48-month commitments (checked October 28, 2026). Over 36 months the cheapest bill depends on the term you choose, and the $1 IONOS plan ($300) costs more than IONOS’s own $3–$4 Essential plan ($180).

Is cheap web hosting good enough for a small business?

For hosting files, usually yes. All four hosts we checked list free SSL and 24/7 support on their entry plans, and most include backups. The catch is everything around it: renewals of $8 to $14 a month, add-ons in the cart, and the website itself, which you still have to build and maintain.

Why does cheap hosting cost so much more when it renews?

The first term is a sign-up discount. Hostinger Premium goes from $2.49 to $10.99 a month, DreamHost Launch from $34.68 for the first year to $131.88 a year, and IONOS Plus from $1 to $14 a month (Hostinger, DreamHost, IONOS).

Is affordable website hosting available month to month?

Yes, but it costs more. Bluehost Starter is $15.99 billed monthly, and Hostinger Premium is $12.19 for a single month, with no free domain on either. WebZum is month to month only: $19/mo for Basic or $34/mo for Professional, hosting and the finished site included.

What’s the cheapest way to get a business website online without building it?

Use a builder that does the building and includes hosting. WebZum creates the whole site from a few answers in about five minutes, and you can preview it free for 30 days before you pay anything.

Does WebZum include hosting?

Yes. Every WebZum plan includes hosting, CDN and SSL. Basic ($19/mo) runs on a WebZum address. Professional ($34/mo) uses your own domain, with registration covered up to $20 a year. Every plan has a 30-day money-back guarantee.
